Overview: Melissa Houghton and Erica Ginsberg will talk about fiscal sponsorship: what it is, why you might need it, and how to find the right fiscal sponsor for your documentary project.
The Documentary Roundtable is a joint program of Docs In Progress and Women and Film and Video. These free meetings switch off between Washington DC and Silver Spring. The Washington DC meetings are organized by Women in Film and Video and are focused on getting expert advice on topics related to documentary filmmaking. The Silver Spring meetings are organized by Docs In Progress and focused on peer feedback. Both meetings include time for networking.
All Documentary Roundtable meetings are FREE and you do NOT need to be a WIFV member, Docs Insider, or alum of Docs In Progress to participate. This is a great way to get to know others in the DC-area documentary filmmaking community, build your network and know-how, and find out about other offerings of these two organizations.
Are you planning to raise funds for your documentary through grants or from individuals who would like a tax benefit from a charitable donation? Are you a nonprofit organization? If the answer to your first question is Yes and the answer to the second question is NO, you may be in need of a fiscal sponsor. This program will help demystify fiscal sponsorship for filmmakers.
While the speakers will provide information on their respective organizations' fiscal sponsorship programs, they will also discuss the broader context for what fiscal sponsorship is, what it is not, and how to go about determining the fiscal sponsor who is the best fit for your project and needs.
