PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CLASS HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE.
In this hands-on editing lab for emerging documentary filmmakers, participants will learn how to structure and edit a fundraising trailer or a short segment (up to two minutes) from scratch using the editing software Final Cut Pro X (FCPX).
We will provide structured guidance, and tips on using the software. You will bring footage on your own external hard drive. You will walk away with a video you can share on social media, in a crowdfunding campaign, or simply as a start to editing a longer piece.
We have three iMacs and three laptops which can be used during class sessions only. If you want to be able to work on your project between class sessions, we recommend that you bring your own Mac laptop or iPad which already has FCPX installed on it.
Session 1: Thursday, January 11 from 7:00-9:00 pm
Session 2: Thursday, January 18 from 7:00-9:00 pm
Session 3: Thursday, January 25 from 7:00-9:00 pm
Session 4: Thursday, February 1 from 7:00-9:00 pm
NOTE: There will be NO SESSION on Thursday, February 8 (Instructor Out of Town)
Session 5: Thursday, February 15 from 7:00-9:00 pm
I/II – No prior training at Docs In Progress required, but you must have your own footage to use as your source material. Make sure your footage is saved on a portable external hard drive that has 500GB or 1 TB (several suggested below). The drive must be formatted for Mac computers. If you do not already own a portable hard drive the instructor recommends purchasing one from Best Buy or Amazon.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Adele Schmidt is no stranger to the Docs In Progress community. As the co-founder of the organization in 2004 and staff member from 2009-2010, Adele was instrumental in helping the organization expand beyond its signature work-in-progress screenings to provide a full array of educational, professional development, and mentoring programs for emerging documentary filmmakers. In addition to more than 15 years working as a producer, director, editor, and consulting producer for award-winning long-form documentaries and short feature films, Adele has extensive teaching experience in film and video production -- at American University, Catholic University of America, Fairfax Public Access TV, and at a film school in Mexico City. She has also served as a panelist for the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, reviewing applications in the disciplines of writing, philosophy, history, and media arts.
